Photo Gallery, Event :: Amazon Watch 20 Years! Honoring Brazil’s Indigenous Peoples and River Defenders

April 28, 2016 :: Indigenous guests from Brazil joined Amazon Watch at Gallery 212 Miami in the Wynwood Art District as they honored Brazil’s indigenous peoples and river defenders.  Amazon Watch celebrates 20 years this October.  The guests and their translator Christian Poirier spoke out with great passion about the plight of the indigenous people of Brazil to save their people and their land.  There was singing and dancing as attendees were educated and inspired to take action!

Gallery 212 Miami, Miami Publicist and Jason Perez Music at 2407 NW 2nd Avenue in Wynwood, Miami FL 33127 were honored to host this event, its organizers, guests and attendees.

Dear Friend,

Hello from Amazon Watch! I’m writing to invite you to our upcoming reception in Miami honoring indigenous peoples and river defenders from the Brazilian Amazon. It’s this Thursday in Miami!  It would be wonderful if you could attend to celebrate recent victories with our team and allies from Brazil. Christian Poirier, our Program Director, Stephanie Tidwell, our Development Director, and Adeline Cassin, a Board Member who lives in Miami, will all be there.

There’s lots to celebrate because last week the license for the Tapajós Dam was suspended and the Munduruku peoples’ call for demarcation of their ancestral territory was recognized. Here’s a blogpost we just posted on these victories. Representatives of the Munduruku people from the Tapajós River Basin and Antonia Melo, the legendary leader of the Xingu Alive Forever Movement (MXVPS), are in Florida for the GE shareholder’s meeting tomorrow and then will travel to Miami to celebrate with us.

If you cannot make it, please share the invite far and wide to any friends in Miami who you think would be interested in learning about and supporting our work. Thank YOU so much for your years of support!
